I also finished reading SHADOW OF SAGANAMI by David Weber. It was a gift from WriterGrrl two years ago, and I had finally re-started the book just recently. It was not very good at all; like I said, Shadow of Suckanami. Who knew Weber's Indirectly-Related-To-Honor-Harrington book would be so political and dull. The previous 9 Honor books were fantastic. By the time the end of the book came around, I thought, "That's it?" Goddamn. This was definitely not indicative to the solid space dramas Weber writes!
This reminds me of something else. The other day, I was looking for some of my Honor Harrington paperbacks and couldn't find one of them. I thought I had bought the entire series, some in hardcover when it was discounted like crazy, most in paperback. I think I'm going to have to do a book-check and see what I'm missing; then I'm placing a hold on it/them at the library. Maybe I'll bring one of the paperbacks with me on the plane.
I've got AMERICAN BLOOMSBURY by Susan Cheever from the library too but I can't seem to get myself to read it. I'll try tonight. The premise sounds interesting but knowing that it was 'assigned' as my bookclub book, I seem to be more reluctant to crack it open.
In addition to Suckanami, I finished reading the Frommer's Guide to NYC in one sitting. I have to do some highlighting and post-it noting soon. Maybe Thursday night. Bubba said I was in charge of the itinerary. :p That means: food and shopping and musical theatre, baby!
Tentative:
Friday evening - arrive, dinner with Bubba's cousins maybe
Saturday - Grandma all day, dinner with cousins
Sunday - no clue, breakfast damnit, rush for theatre tickets, Central Park
Monday - hanging with R2W2!, Conan O' Brien, Serendipity, H&M, bagels, pizza
Tuesday - Magnolia Bakery, shopping, Ground Zero, Century 21, rush for theatre tickets
Wednesday - breakfast damnit, Michael Jordan's Steakhouse (I hope), Statue of Liberty, maybe Game 7 of the Devils playoffs back in NJ
Thursday - Grandma?, flying home
As you know, I got me one of these to deal with my frequent nosebleeds. So far, I think it's working. I've been playing with the mist output and still haven't found a good balance. I got the elephant and I'm glad! The frog was way green in person and the pig looked way too pink. The elephant is more subtle than the other two. BBB sold them for $29.99 - and of course I used my 20% off coupon. Heh.
Who doesn't love the tokidoki stuff from LeSportSac!?? I first saw them last year when I was in SF for work. Then I've been waiting for them to come down on the price. Yet they continue to be sold at regular price. Argh! I could buy a leather bag for that price! However, there's also a new designer they signed on to design prints named Fafi. And I just saw that Stella McCartney might be designing for them too. Cool! AND Smashbox has tokidoki cosmetics!!! Here are a few things I'm coveting:
At the outlets, I found a lightweight cotton red trench at Nine West. Got it for 25% off and an additional 10% from my AAA coupon! Yeah! Imagine this in RED! Whee!
And I just got back to re-starting David Weber's THE SHADOW OF SAGINAMI.I had read about 200 pages before I dropped for something else, I think. Thanks to WriterGrrl for sending the tome to me a few years ago - I'm back on a Honor Harrington/sci-fi kick!
I also started THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES on my iPod when I went to the gym. Yeah, that's going on the backshelf. In fact, I'm deleting it from my iPod. I understand that it's the South and people talk slow, but the reader is really cramping my workouts. NEXT.
Speaking of workouts, I was inspired by GirlGoneWild and headed out to Hermosa Beach/Manhattan Beach with my bike. It's FANTASTIC on weekday mornings! Plenty of street parking! Lots of room on the route! I gotta do this a little earlier! I parked literally 2 minutes from MARTHA'S and rode up to the stacks and back down. I got back by lunchtime and grabbed a table inside. SO GOOD. This also reminds me that I really need to get a new bike seat. My butt is in pain.
I've been amusing myself today - no, not that way! - I'm at work. Reading blogs and scratching my ass. Just kidding about the ass part. I really am working.
Now where's my damn chocolate!?
On another note, I am enjoying THE TENDER BAR. I'm on Disc 11 of 14 and it's moving along... slowly. JR Moehringer sure likes to fill pages, that's for sure. My bookclub read this last fall, and I'm just getting to it. The women are now on something called, well, I forgot. I know it wasn't Ilead. Oh GILEAD. Doesn't sound like anyone's finished it though, so that's great - I can start on it in March and perhaps actually attend a bookclub meeting this semester! Yeah!
