Bleak and I like to save a little bit of money by trading our magazine subscriptions when we're done with them. I think I get the better end of this deal. She gets my Marie Claires, Luckys, and US mags; I get her Real Simples and SELFs. I think we've been doing this for over two years. After continually reading her SELF mags, I've been spurred to join the Self Challenge this year. I weigh way too much for my own good. I think I've gained another few pounds since our trip to NYC. It ain't happy fat. It's just fat. What bugs me (about myself) is that I've picked up the two internships and two classes this summer. I kind of already sabotaged my own training before signing up.
Yesterday I went to the gym in my 5 year old Nikes. I had meant to throw them away when we were in Singapore (to get rid of dead weight). I forgot and brought them home. They're dead. Alas, I went out to pick up a pair of inexpensive sneakers today. Ta da. Go DSW! I got these babies for $40! Yeah! I had tried to go back to New Balance but the selection at the Pas DSW isn't so great. The models are all in the 400s, which I've had bad luck re: cushion.
Bubba came home late and I asked if he wanted to see my new shoes. He rolled his eyes and said NO. I took them out of the box anyway - ta da! He cracked that I was getting ready for the Silver Surfer. WTH? They're not that silvery. Dork. But I can't poke him too much. He bought me new highlighters and pens [Bic Round Stics - the best!] and a mini-mouse for my laptop. Whee! I'm loving this mouse. I've been using this all day today since 8 am. It's perfect for my normal-palm-but-short-fingers hand.
Agent Doggett (aka. T-1000, aka. Robert Patrick) shows up. Agent Reyes (boo on the character, yay for Annabeth Gish) gets introduced. Blah. I always thought that Scully looked younger in the later seasons than in the beginning of the series. In the beginning, she was so frumpy. Then she just kept getting better. Bigger budget, I guess. Ahhh Krycek. Nicholas Lea was a great baddie! That reminds me of the opposite of hot Krycek - the Lone Gunmen. :p
Below is a screenshot from Season 6, one of my favorite funny episodes.
I made the appointment to get that polyp on my cervix (sexy!) checked out and possibly chopped off. The clinic is busy until mid-June. :p Guess what? It doesn't get chopped off. It's TWISTED OFF.
From InteliHealth.com:
Cervical polyps are removed surgically, usually in a
doctor's office. The doctor will use a special instrument, called a
polyp forceps, to grasp the base of the polyp stem and then gently
pluck the polyp with a gentle, twisting motion. Bleeding is usually
brief and limited.
I don't know about you but if it's like a t*ttie twister, it's not going to be gentle. :p
As you know, I got me one of these to deal with my frequent nosebleeds. So far, I think it's working. I've been playing with the mist output and still haven't found a good balance. I got the elephant and I'm glad! The frog was way green in person and the pig looked way too pink. The elephant is more subtle than the other two. BBB sold them for $29.99 - and of course I used my 20% off coupon. Heh.
Who doesn't love the tokidoki stuff from LeSportSac!?? I first saw them last year when I was in SF for work. Then I've been waiting for them to come down on the price. Yet they continue to be sold at regular price. Argh! I could buy a leather bag for that price! However, there's also a new designer they signed on to design prints named Fafi. And I just saw that Stella McCartney might be designing for them too. Cool! AND Smashbox has tokidoki cosmetics!!! Here are a few things I'm coveting:
At the outlets, I found a lightweight cotton red trench at Nine West. Got it for 25% off and an additional 10% from my AAA coupon! Yeah! Imagine this in RED! Whee!
And I just got back to re-starting David Weber's THE SHADOW OF SAGINAMI.I had read about 200 pages before I dropped for something else, I think. Thanks to WriterGrrl for sending the tome to me a few years ago - I'm back on a Honor Harrington/sci-fi kick!
I also started THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES on my iPod when I went to the gym. Yeah, that's going on the backshelf. In fact, I'm deleting it from my iPod. I understand that it's the South and people talk slow, but the reader is really cramping my workouts. NEXT.
Speaking of workouts, I was inspired by GirlGoneWild and headed out to Hermosa Beach/Manhattan Beach with my bike. It's FANTASTIC on weekday mornings! Plenty of street parking! Lots of room on the route! I gotta do this a little earlier! I parked literally 2 minutes from MARTHA'S and rode up to the stacks and back down. I got back by lunchtime and grabbed a table inside. SO GOOD. This also reminds me that I really need to get a new bike seat. My butt is in pain.
It started in January. We got back from Tokyo and I started the spring semester. During that month, I averaged about 3-4 hours of sleep because I worried so much about juggling everything I had in the air. New classes and homework, a steep learning curve re: my cultural studies class, a new school club to lead, work, marriage, and so on. Everytime I hit the bed, I woke within hours, worrying about "What else do I have to do?"
I ran into my cohortmate and we caught up with each other. I asked her how she handled everything - after all, she also drove 60+ miles RT for school and worked and was a newlywed. Long story short, she mentioned that I should watch this movie called THE SECRET. She turned me to the website and I looked at her and it skeptically. In the end, she started me thinking about what my priorities should be.
At the dinner party about two weeks ago, the other women in the room (Bubba's friends) chatted about THE SECRET and their vision book. I'm telling you - I was looking at them like they were new age freaks. They explained it was about the laws of attraction - if you put out positive energy, positive energy will come back to you; same with negative energy. M's wife even took out her vision book to show us. I was amused.
A few days after that, I was at work and asked Kim, Hey have you heard of THE SECRET? Being that she was in entertainment as well, I figured she would have seen it already. She laughed and said Yeah! I heard about it. The temp who was covering me said she saw it and it was a common sense message but it was a good reminder to keep yourself optimistic and thinking positively.
Well I just saw that Bargainist.com is advertising it too! Apparently it's on sale at Amazon.com for $30. Three times the charm, right? I've just put it on the Netflix queue instead. (And it's got a very long wait! Heh.)
If anyone's seen it, let me know what you thought. I'd love to hear from believers and naysayers. :)
My aunt, who prepares my taxes, called again yesterday needing more detail about me and Bubba. I didn't realize it was a bigger pain to file jointly until now. Anyway, she reminded me to update my Schedule C summary as I itemize deductions. I had a bunch of school-related charges that I didn't include for her to deduct. [I also can see why a joint checking account can be helpful. :p Alas, we're not at that point and I don't think we ever will be.] Plus I forgot to give her my 401k info. Speaking of 401k, my future BIL is going to help me with this account as he works for this company. Yay! Ie. rolling over and looking at the funds I've chosen. I think I've done ok for myself with this account.
I've now decided to keep every little receipt so that I don't forget to list them for next year. (I used to keep track of my finances pretty well. Until school started. Then all hell broke loose.) I also just started using Quicken 2006 which is confusing to me. Not everything is being imported so my balances are all wrong. Jeez. Tips? Hints?
On a semi-related note, I've started nosebleeds again. This is BS. I think I will pick up a humidifier for our bedroom. I'm getting tired of these random gushes of blood. I am pretty sure it's because it's winter and the air is dry. Grr.
