It's my new desktop image. Here's the link: http://www.foxmovies.com/fightclub/flightcard_med.jpg
I couldn't stop laughing when I found it. Oh the memories. I'd have to say that Fight Club is in my Top 10 list.
Today's my usual "day off" from school where I stay home and do all of my homework and studying for my Wed and Thurs classes. Well, I've been bound to the apt, waiting for the fucking UPS guy to deliver my goddamn boots. I even left a note asking the neighbors to leave our security gate open. It's now 6pm and still, he is not here. Jesus. Last night, he showed up at 6:30pm and left a note saying "No one home." WTF? Bubba was home at 5:30. Fuck you, UPS. I am definitely considering a PO box that can take care of signed deliveries and shit. This is ridiculous. Don't couriers know that you don't get between a woman and her shoes. Gah. UPS kills me. DHL is right up there as well.
What's ironic is that my dad used to work for UPS... as a driver!
But I'm digressing. While perusing my usual bookmarked local blogs, I discovered there is a film festival happening this weekend! Check this out! It's the 1st Annual Subtitle Media Film Festival. And guess what's playing on Saturday afternoon? The "new" Andy Lau/Takeshi Kaneshiro movie, "Confession of Pain." Poor Takeshi, he got stuck with the character name "Bong."
A couple weeks ago I bought a sweet potato. I thought a roasted sweet potato sounded delish so today, I wrapped it in foil and stuck it in the toaster oven. :p I got bored after an hour of watching it not soften, so I took it out and put it in a pan and covered it with additional foil and broiled it. It is now 10 minutes later and I think it's burnt. Great. The apt smells like burning and heat. I guess you're supposed to cut it in slices before you broil. Eh. Good thing Trader Joe's makes vegeterian corn dogs! :p
It started in January. We got back from Tokyo and I started the spring semester. During that month, I averaged about 3-4 hours of sleep because I worried so much about juggling everything I had in the air. New classes and homework, a steep learning curve re: my cultural studies class, a new school club to lead, work, marriage, and so on. Everytime I hit the bed, I woke within hours, worrying about "What else do I have to do?"
I ran into my cohortmate and we caught up with each other. I asked her how she handled everything - after all, she also drove 60+ miles RT for school and worked and was a newlywed. Long story short, she mentioned that I should watch this movie called THE SECRET. She turned me to the website and I looked at her and it skeptically. In the end, she started me thinking about what my priorities should be.
At the dinner party about two weeks ago, the other women in the room (Bubba's friends) chatted about THE SECRET and their vision book. I'm telling you - I was looking at them like they were new age freaks. They explained it was about the laws of attraction - if you put out positive energy, positive energy will come back to you; same with negative energy. M's wife even took out her vision book to show us. I was amused.
A few days after that, I was at work and asked Kim, Hey have you heard of THE SECRET? Being that she was in entertainment as well, I figured she would have seen it already. She laughed and said Yeah! I heard about it. The temp who was covering me said she saw it and it was a common sense message but it was a good reminder to keep yourself optimistic and thinking positively.
Well I just saw that Bargainist.com is advertising it too! Apparently it's on sale at Amazon.com for $30. Three times the charm, right? I've just put it on the Netflix queue instead. (And it's got a very long wait! Heh.)
If anyone's seen it, let me know what you thought. I'd love to hear from believers and naysayers. :)
My aunt, who prepares my taxes, called again yesterday needing more detail about me and Bubba. I didn't realize it was a bigger pain to file jointly until now. Anyway, she reminded me to update my Schedule C summary as I itemize deductions. I had a bunch of school-related charges that I didn't include for her to deduct. [I also can see why a joint checking account can be helpful. :p Alas, we're not at that point and I don't think we ever will be.] Plus I forgot to give her my 401k info. Speaking of 401k, my future BIL is going to help me with this account as he works for this company. Yay! Ie. rolling over and looking at the funds I've chosen. I think I've done ok for myself with this account.
I've now decided to keep every little receipt so that I don't forget to list them for next year. (I used to keep track of my finances pretty well. Until school started. Then all hell broke loose.) I also just started using Quicken 2006 which is confusing to me. Not everything is being imported so my balances are all wrong. Jeez. Tips? Hints?
On a semi-related note, I've started nosebleeds again. This is BS. I think I will pick up a humidifier for our bedroom. I'm getting tired of these random gushes of blood. I am pretty sure it's because it's winter and the air is dry. Grr.
Somone "invited" me to join Facebook and like a sucker, I did. Well, not like a sucker. I was curious to see "the next MySpace" (Businessweek) in action. I am not on MySpace and I never will be. That site is so messy. How does anyone organize anything? Why would anyone want to join in a messy network? Perhaps it's just the sites of non-computer types who put all that shit on - flashy and hard to read backgrounds, bad music that plays once you get to their page, and shitty fonts. I like to think that MySpace is synonymous with "Trailer Trash of the Internet."
I don't have much to say about Facebook. It's clean and easy to navigate. I haven't found too many of my classmates on it. In fact, the someone who invited me is at Wharton, so there ya go.
Next topic.
Does anyone know how to reverse my photo? I looked through iPhoto and I didn't see anything to flip the image. It's kind of retarded right now, don'cha think? I also don't understand why iPhoto is so great. I think it's kind of a pain in the butt to use. There is no "save" button; it's practically automatic. So if you crop something, that's it. It's cropped and you're SOL if you want the orginal image back.
Next.
Why is the movie "Clean" hanging around on my right column? It's not NEW. It's freaking old. Bubba Netflixed it a long time ago. And it sucked. Gah.
This post is useless and definitely a brain vomit. Good weekend, all.
