Short article on Frenemies at Work. Huh. It should also be called Frenemies at School.

I know that this has been circulating around but I just had to post it. I love it. I first saw this last week at Thursday's game during the first intermission. Then saw it again on Saturday's game. BUT they cut off the end. Here's the full version!
I have this marketing research project to submit next week. B suggested I do something regarding Gary Bettman (most hated GM?) and the fall of NHL popularity in North America. I started this past weekend, working on a draft of what exactly I wanted this proposal to look like. The good news about this - I KNOW no one else is submitting a proposal about hockey. The bad news - this is marketing research, not marketing.

After I took the trash out this morning, I hoped in the car and took off for work. I put some PURELL hand sanitizer to clean up my hands from the trash dumpster. I got to the office and my fingertips started to BURN. Holy crap. What the hell kind of alcohol is in Purell? I just talked to my boss about it and she said "UH. TOXIC. Go to Safecosmetics.org."
DUH, right? I mean our org supports the Safe Cosmetics campaign and I'm ignoring our own work. Check out the new article on top - cancer-causing chemicals in baby bath products. NICE.
I do appreciate the SAFER companies list. [Note to self: I should really go back to Kiss My Face products.]
After my psychotic rant about my theory class, I got my first paper back from the Prof. An A! I can't believe it. I'm the biggest (and fattest) 'tard in writing papers and I got an A! AND she said I did a really good job on my presentation last night. *blink blink - jaw dropping* That's interesting because I literally read my [second] paper to the class. I think the class held back on their comments on my presentation. Last week, they ripped apart my classmate's presentation. I know, I know, it's pessimistic.
Other random thoughts:
- Check out HSBC's online savings promotion! 6.0% interest until April!
- Bubba and I are looking to buy clay poker chips. After playing with the Valley gang and my mom's family, we need our own chips!
- Loads of homework, not enough time in the day to do it all.
Last night I went to the REDCAT* which is the little avant-garde space attached to Disney Hall. What a great space to have a party or a convening or a fundraising event! My Transnational Media Theory class was attending a screening of Wu Wenguang's China Village Self-Governance Project. Fucking fantastic. I know I say that about a lot of things. It was powerful, it made me think, I was impressed.
This film was a compilation of ten 10-minute documentaries made by Chinese villagers, 8 of whom had never used any camera equipment. They were from 10 different villages - their focus was <duh> the self-governance of their villages. I was surprised to hear all 10 villages spoke Mandarin or a dialect close to it. Ig'nant me thought it was Cantonese that was village-speak. It was eye-opening to see their environments, their ways of life, what they dealt with everyday.
Wu Wenguang was great. He answered many questions (Mandarin - d'oh!) after the screening with some help of a translator. There were a lot of questions about the editing, the village filmmakers' opinions of the finished product, and documentaries in general. I LOOOOOOOVED that he said he liked a few American documentarians, and disliked a lot of them. He said that there tends to be a lot of western documentary filmmakers who film things from the outside in, which can sometimes be construed as cultural invasion - tacking on your western ideals to something that is a sensitive subject. One example he pointed out was a docu called "CHINA BLUE" which spotlights exploited (my word) Chinese people making jeans. Well, that's going on the Netflix!
Wu Wenguang's latest docu is called "FUCK CINEMA." And if you all are so inclined, there is a free screening at Cal Arts tonight. :P In Valencia. :P
* The REDCAT stands for the Roy and Edna Disney Cal Arts Theatre.
