My birthday's coming up this week and I pretty much have what I want. Ok, maybe I'd like those red Nike Air Cole Haan red patent stilettos, but other that, I'm set. Or so I thought. I need a sleeve for my 1-year old Macbook. My laptop backpack has a space for my laptop but it's really wide and long, so my laptop swings around in there, unsecure.
Does anyone know of a good place to check out sleeves for 13" Macbooks? The InCase RED sleeve would be my default if I can't find anything better.
Bleak and I like to save a little bit of money by trading our magazine subscriptions when we're done with them. I think I get the better end of this deal. She gets my Marie Claires, Luckys, and US mags; I get her Real Simples and SELFs. I think we've been doing this for over two years. After continually reading her SELF mags, I've been spurred to join the Self Challenge this year. I weigh way too much for my own good. I think I've gained another few pounds since our trip to NYC. It ain't happy fat. It's just fat. What bugs me (about myself) is that I've picked up the two internships and two classes this summer. I kind of already sabotaged my own training before signing up.
Yesterday I went to the gym in my 5 year old Nikes. I had meant to throw them away when we were in Singapore (to get rid of dead weight). I forgot and brought them home. They're dead. Alas, I went out to pick up a pair of inexpensive sneakers today. Ta da. Go DSW! I got these babies for $40! Yeah! I had tried to go back to New Balance but the selection at the Pas DSW isn't so great. The models are all in the 400s, which I've had bad luck re: cushion.
Bubba came home late and I asked if he wanted to see my new shoes. He rolled his eyes and said NO. I took them out of the box anyway - ta da! He cracked that I was getting ready for the Silver Surfer. WTH? They're not that silvery. Dork. But I can't poke him too much. He bought me new highlighters and pens [Bic Round Stics - the best!] and a mini-mouse for my laptop. Whee! I'm loving this mouse. I've been using this all day today since 8 am. It's perfect for my normal-palm-but-short-fingers hand.
Agent Doggett (aka. T-1000, aka. Robert Patrick) shows up. Agent Reyes (boo on the character, yay for Annabeth Gish) gets introduced. Blah. I always thought that Scully looked younger in the later seasons than in the beginning of the series. In the beginning, she was so frumpy. Then she just kept getting better. Bigger budget, I guess. Ahhh Krycek. Nicholas Lea was a great baddie! That reminds me of the opposite of hot Krycek - the Lone Gunmen. :p
Below is a screenshot from Season 6, one of my favorite funny episodes.
I got this one. Yeah! (in a Large! amazing since the shoulders and boobage usually force me to get a baggier XL in Target clothes.
Oh Bravo. I got sucked into watching the last few eps of TOP DESIGN and can't figure out how they're judging the rooms. There's a crazy person amongst the three judges - you know, the one with the faux 'fro and horrendously bad fashion. Tim Gunn needs to show up and rip that shit off her.
Then WORKOUT is back! Yeah! I do like this show even though some of the trainers are idiots. Jackie seems to be a pretty positive role model. I was so relieved to see that she broke up with Mimi - she was such a dick. I'm so sad that Doug passed away though. He was one of my faves on the show in Season 1.
Update on the boots: I got them last night at 6:fucking:30PM. They look great! They zip up too! The right boot is a little too tight though; I'm going to chalk it up to the fact that my right leg is my dominant leg. I checked Zappos and saw that there is a tan pair too! OH I AM SOOOOO TEMPTED.
Update on jeans search: I returned the Hudson jeans a while ago and kept the credit at Bluefly. I found a pair of Joe's Jeans Socialite for less than $100! I got the size 32s even though I'm a 31. I got them today and tried them on. They're a little loose, but I have high hopes that putting them in the washer and dryer will shrink it to the perfect fit. Plus I need to get them washed before I hem them. Goddamn jeans - wtf is up with the 35" inseam???????
So I decided to return these boots as well. They just looked kind of weird with so much space between my leg and boot. AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Instead, I picked up a pair of these, which are supposed to have a 15" circumference - the exact width of my calves. Freaking A.
*head explodes*
Bubba's parents have been looking for a humungous Visionware pot to replace their old one. The biggest one I've seen on their website is 5 Litres and $135 (and out of stock - gah!). Jeez. So I went on eBay and found a 4.5L brand new one for $50 plus $25 shipping. I think it's pretty big. I showed Bubba and he said "UH maybe you should ask if they are ok with the 4.5L. They might want to buy the biggest one." But I showed him the $135 pricetag and mentioned that we were going to buy it for them (Duh!) so we should just get the 4.5L now. He insisted I call them tomorrow to make sure it was big enough, and I kind of agreed that I should too. Blah! There goes the surprise. :p
My last (last) year's tax refund was $$$ - enough to buy a PS3 and some games for B, which is what he had wanted as his "engagement present." [What a nerd.] :P Then he decided to wait for the price to come down. Ok, well now, he's got a new obsession - a dSLR. A Nikon D50, to be exact. However I just read that it's been discontinued and the D40 and the D80 might be comparable matches. Whatever. I just want our little Canon so I can keep it in my bag. :p
I know you gals have dSLRs... What do you own? How do you like them? Your input's greatly appreciated!!
As you know, I got me one of these to deal with my frequent nosebleeds. So far, I think it's working. I've been playing with the mist output and still haven't found a good balance. I got the elephant and I'm glad! The frog was way green in person and the pig looked way too pink. The elephant is more subtle than the other two. BBB sold them for $29.99 - and of course I used my 20% off coupon. Heh.
Who doesn't love the tokidoki stuff from LeSportSac!?? I first saw them last year when I was in SF for work. Then I've been waiting for them to come down on the price. Yet they continue to be sold at regular price. Argh! I could buy a leather bag for that price! However, there's also a new designer they signed on to design prints named Fafi. And I just saw that Stella McCartney might be designing for them too. Cool! AND Smashbox has tokidoki cosmetics!!! Here are a few things I'm coveting:
At the outlets, I found a lightweight cotton red trench at Nine West. Got it for 25% off and an additional 10% from my AAA coupon! Yeah! Imagine this in RED! Whee!
And I just got back to re-starting David Weber's THE SHADOW OF SAGINAMI.I had read about 200 pages before I dropped for something else, I think. Thanks to WriterGrrl for sending the tome to me a few years ago - I'm back on a Honor Harrington/sci-fi kick!
I also started THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES on my iPod when I went to the gym. Yeah, that's going on the backshelf. In fact, I'm deleting it from my iPod. I understand that it's the South and people talk slow, but the reader is really cramping my workouts. NEXT.
Speaking of workouts, I was inspired by GirlGoneWild and headed out to Hermosa Beach/Manhattan Beach with my bike. It's FANTASTIC on weekday mornings! Plenty of street parking! Lots of room on the route! I gotta do this a little earlier! I parked literally 2 minutes from MARTHA'S and rode up to the stacks and back down. I got back by lunchtime and grabbed a table inside. SO GOOD. This also reminds me that I really need to get a new bike seat. My butt is in pain.
Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate it! The year of the oinkster, ham, pork, porkchops, bacon...
I bit the bullet and ordered these - with a $10 off Google signing bonus. Yeah! (Essentially, free shipping.) Frakk you, Lucky Jeans, and your holey crotches!
If anyone has the latest issue of Lucky - check out the LA section in the back. There's a store in Alhambra that sells denim for cheap... I have yet to visit the store, but I bet they only carry size 0's. :p After all, the women who live there have no hips, no ass, and no meat.
Last night, we went to my Grandma's for dinner. I passed out red envelopes for the first time as a married person. Yech. You mean I have to do this for the rest of my life? I passed two envelopes to my brother and we both looked at each other like "This is so freaking weird."
Then one my aunts joked that to recoup the costs, we should get pregnant and have a kid. I blanched and said "Can I rent a baby instead?" :P
I need new jeans. My Luckys that lasted me about 3 or 4 years... there are two big crotch holes from wearing them so much. [Or they're just from my fat thighs rubbing against each other all the time.] I'm really sad. Ever since they got bought by Liz Claiborne, their stuff has been poorly produced. The dyes are ugly, the fit is horrible. Frakk. Damn you for ruining my "affordable" jeans!
The Levis that I've owned for about 4 or 5 years have started to get holey in the crotch too. Argh. Ditto with Levis! I can't find a decent pair with a decent wash! What the hell?
I'm reluctant to pay $140-200 for a new pair, yet I am so freaking desperate for jeans. My AG jeans are now my primary jeans until I can get myself out shopping, which, btw, I am so hating nowadays. Why can't there be one store called Short Fat Asians where I can find EVERYTHING I need? Freakin' A.
I previously promoted American Apparel to my friends and family for the longest time. Non-sweatshop environment, healthcare for all workers, ESL! But after all the press with sexual harassment surrounding Dov Charney, I've focused on looking for alternatives to AA. And thanks to a Google search and the now-dead Clamor Magazine, I found three:
Alternative Apparel - www.alternativeapparel.com
Justice Clothing - www.justiceclothing.com
No Sweat Apparel - www.nosweatapparel.com
Both Justice and No Sweat offer screenprinting and embroidery! And they all currently have stuff on sale/clearance! Too bad they don't have my size in the Code Pink shoes!
